Walking Clubs
Come with us! Let’s walk together!
Walking can be started at any age, it is an inexpensive and simple sport, a useful and meaningful way to spend time, and can be recommended to everyone regardless of age or fitness level.

The organization of elderly people who walk across the country into a club network began in 2017 at the initiative of Sarolta Monspart, a Member of the Nation’s Sportsmen and Women, world champion orienteer, and member of the Council of Elderly People. Her vision was to bring walking clubs together and turn them into a community, thereby providing an opportunity to experience the joy of physical activity and strengthen peer relationships in a network. Given that these objectives are in line with the government’s efforts, the government has actively supported the establishment and expansion of the network from the outset. By 2022, despite the pandemic, the number of walking clubs had reached 120. Following the death of the founder, the organization and expansion of the network has been carried out by the Sarolta Monspart Foundation for a Healthy Lifestyle.
Sarolta Monspart considered promoting a healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity among older people her vocation, while also recognizing that her vision provided an opportunity to bring into the spotlight a program that could present a positive image of older people in a well-communicated and distinctive way, and, not least, serve as a good example for younger generations as well.

The Prime Minister’s Office has also set the promotion of walking among elderly people as a goal, and in 2023 the State Secretariat for Active Hungary developed an active lifestyle strategy named after Sarolta Monspart.
Club leaders receive informational materials, professional publications, and newsletters on a monthly basis, and club leader mentoring days as well as national or regional meetings for the entire network are organized for them.
